Viviani-Giberti Palace (1904)
The building stands at Viale XX Settembre, once Via dell'Acquedotto (Aqueduct road), where in the past there was a Roman aqueduct afterwards destroyed by Longobards and rebuilt by Maria Theresa of Austria (1750). The Viale is mentioned in several sources of that time as "Passeggiata dell'Acquedotto" (Aqueduct promenade), at those times very popular because it was on the way to Boschetto Park, with its beautiful and picturesque view of green hills at both sides; Domenico Rossetti created the tree-lined promenade landscape as we know it now in 1808.
The site where the building is situated was originally a land over the old bridge called Chiozza during the XIX century. Built in 1907, the palace has been designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga (1867-1917), Milanese architect, unconventional pupil of Camillo Boito, who managed with his influence to spread the floral Liberty style all over Triest.
